Yes, in 2012 there are still those who not only want to tell us what is bad for us to read, which, of course, is their First Amendment right BUT additionally, they want to remove those books from bookshelves and that goes against our and, ironically, the same First Amendment right, freedom of speech. I was not aware, however, that certain people, groups and organizations continue to work diligently to ban certain books. I have even mentioned one or two of them in past posts. I am aware, of course, that there have been some books released over the years that have stirred up a lot of controversy. (Guess I’m not over it – Picture me shaking a finger at myself.) Just in case there are a few of you who, like myself, are in the dark on this one, here are a few tidbits:īanned Books Week runs from September 30-October 6. As it turns out, I’m probably the only one who hasn’t! Shame on me! :*(
